Why Adoption Education is Important
Every year, approximately 1 million teens, 15 to 19 years old, become pregnant; 50 percent of these women will chose to parent and 48 percent will terminate their pregnancy. Only 2 percent will chose an adoption plan.
In a pregnancy counseling situation, adoption is often not mentioned. If it is mentioned, the information is often inaccurate. Because adoption has changed dramatically over a short period of time, many professionals and the general public are unaware of current adoption practices.
For example, did you know that birth parents can chose the adoptive parents for their child, or that birth parents receive letters and photos of their child even after placement?
Gladney understands that adoption is a very personal choice and may not be the choice for everyone. Too many times, young women facing an unplanned pregnancy will only be aware of two choices: abortion and parenting. For this reason Gladney would like you to know that adoption is another alternative.
