Adoption Presentation Outline


I. Introduction

  1. The Gladney Center for Adoption is a maternity home and an adoption agency
  2. Adoption is simply a choice. It's one choice of three, parenting, abortion and adoption
  3. Introduce Video. Young Heroes: Facing the Challenges of an Unplanned Pregnancy.
    (Please explain: In this video you will hear birth parents discussing the choices they considered and why they made the decision of adoption.)
II. Adoption Process through Gladney
  1. Birth mothers call our hotline
  2. Adoption counselors listen to the young women and reach out to assist them
  3. Birth mother service options
    Gladney's residential program offers:
    1. Medical Care
    2. GED tutoring and testing program/junior and senior high classes
    3. Career development classes
    4. Exciting activities that include shopping, eating out, sports events, movies and other special events
    All programs offer:
    1. Counseling services
    2. Legal Services
    3. Post Adoption Services ( life-long service)
  4. Birth mothers are connected with a staff member who will assist them with their adoption plans
  5. Whenever birth parents are ready they may review adoptive parent profiles. Profiles are like scrapbooks of the adoptive couples life together, they help birth parents select adoptive parents for their child.
  6. Birth parents have the opportunity to meet the adoptive parents and/or to correspond via telephone.

III. How Adoption has Changed

  1. Birth parents select the families from adoptive parent profiles.
  2. Birth parents have the opportunity to talk to or meet the adoptive parents prior to placement of the baby.
  3. After placement, birth parents may receive regular correspondence (photos and letters) through Gladney's Post Adoption Department
  4. Adoptive parents explain to their children what it means to be adopted and the courageous choice their birth parents have made.
